In two days, I have an appointment with a psychologist. If she’s not gatekeep-y, I’ll get put on HRT shortly thereafter. If she is, then first of all screw her, but also I’ll just find someone new and move on with my life.
In either case, however, I have decided that I’m going to officially come out to my parents after my appointment. So that’s a pretty big deal.

Psychologist should be unbiased so drop her if she is a gatekeeper. But more importantly...congrats on the big announcement!!! That’s super exciting.

I’ll admit that this world is outside my knowledge, but I really hope that you get what you want. If you feel it is right for you, why should someone disagree?
Good luck with your parents. I know that is tough.

It’s only recently been un- classified as a mental disorder, and it’s still not recognized as a * physical* condition, like it should be. (After all, if I was born with 12 toes, nobody would think twice if I chose to correct that. It’s the same general idea of just a bodily disorder. The only difference is it can be passed off as nothing if one chooses to live that way.) So, unfortunately, certain psychologists and therapists can choose to just ignore it altogether.

Yeah, she * should* be unbiased, but I do live in Georgia so there’s always a chance.

Congrats and good luck! I hope the discussion goes well with the parents. One thing to keep in mind is that you've had a lot of time to process this information, whereas it'll probably be very new to them. So they might need time to process it and understand it, and they might think that you're making a spur-of-the-moment decision because they don't know that you've been dealing with this for a while.

Just be yourself. Go in with a smile and a whole lot of confidence. Don’t second guess anything and think for a bit to answer any questions she might have. 1st psycho I went to had no idea about any of it, then again it was 17 years ago . It took multiple attempts to find one that I trusted, and fortunately they trusted me. I got to a happy place in my life, and kinda just put it all in limbo, then life got in the way. Sucks but after 10 years I am trying to continue on where I left off, and t hat time off has been the biggest hurdle to my success.
Only word of advice is once you start, DO NOT stop. Just keep going forward.

I’ve been down this path before, so Godspeed fellow egg. Godspeed.
I don’t quite know where you are in Georgia, but a lot of Planned Parenthood clinics do informed consent HRT. That’s how I started, the first time I lived in KC.
Biggest things to remember are: be you, and it’s a marathon, not a sprint. It’ll get overwhelming at times and electrolysis is literally torture, but a necessary evil. As time goes on though, i
t’ll get better and you’ll start to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and you’ll end up knowing yourself way better, and seeing yourself as you,
way more than you ever thought possible.

Good luck. I’ve been trying to schedule an appointment but it’s considerably difficult. I wish these people were all on Zocdoc or something so it would be easy to schedule an appointment and go (and easy to schedule with someone else should the first one suck). If my mental health were good enough to jump through a bunch of hoops to get an appointment, I probably wouldn’t need one in the first place.

Oh go d, don’t remind me. I’m sure it’s the same for everyone, but I still remember how upset I was when I learned that hormones DON’T affect facial hair.
But yeah, one way or the other, I’m getting started on this stuff before the year is out. Hopefully this month.

Yep. I remember how upset I was when I learned laser doesn’t work on redheads...
Cheap advice: Get a lidocaine cream prescription when you start hair removal, with lots of refills. It will become your BFF.

Yeah, and laser is only semi-permanent anyway. I have a mixture of light and dark hairs, so I’m sure that laser could do a decent job clearing everything up, but I dunno. I might just reserve that for my legs, whenever I have extra money and feel lazy.

I’m glad to hear this! I hope it goes well for you with both the psychologist and your parents.
